You may have heard that data protection laws are changing this month. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into force on 25th May and strengthen the rules around how all organisations can hold and use data.
The aim of the new regulation is to give everyone control over how their personal data is used. Here at mydentist we wanted to update you on how we use your data.
How we collect data
When you register as a patient we ask you for your contact information and medical history which will be stored on your patient record. You’ll be asked to review this at every check up to make sure our details are up to date. During every visit the dentist will also add details about your teeth and any treatment given to your notes.
Before your appointment we also give you a Smile Checker form so that you can tell us confidentially how you feel about your smile. This form gives you the opportunity to say which treatments interest you and if we can contact you with details of our products, services and treatments.
How we contact you
For your convenience, we contact patients via email, phone or SMS to remind you of appointments or provide service updates about your individual practice.
We occasionally also send emails to tell you about our latest products and offers. We will only send these emails to people who have opted in and given their consent on our Smile Checkers to receive marketing emails. If that changes, and you no longer want marketing emails from us, it’s easy to unsubscribe.
If you want to opt out
If you no longer want us to contact you about our products, services and treatments that’s fine. All of our marketing emails include a link so that you can unsubscribe.
If you’d like to know more you can check out our privacy page here or email [email protected]
