To prolong the lifespan of your bite guard or gumshield, it's important to take proper care of it. Rinse it after each use, ensure water is no more than hand-hot, brush it with a toothbrush and hand soap and ensure you rinse your guard after cleaning. Store your bite guard in a clean, ventilated case.
Do not boil your bite guard or gumshield or try to clean your appliance in a dishwasher.
Remember to bring your bite guard with you when you attend your regular examinations with your clinician. Your clinician will be able to inspect your appliance for wear and tear and advise you accordingly. If your appliance is damaged, you may need a replacement.
