mydentist has been commissioned by the local Integrated Care Board to provide domiciliary dental services to eligible residents who cannot attend a dental practice.
There is no cost to your care home for accessing the NHS-commissioned service.

Our domiciliary dental team can provide appropriate NHS dental care within your care home, helping eligible residents access treatment while reducing the practical challenges of travelling to a dental practice.
The service also gives your team access to oral health training, personalised support and documentation to help with regulatory compliance.

Domiciliary FAQs
Is this an NHS service?
Yes. mydentist has been commissioned by the local Integrated Care Board to provide NHS domiciliary dental care to eligible residents within the commissioned area.
Is there a cost to the care home?
No. There is no cost to the care home for accessing the NHS-commissioned service.
Standard NHS dental charges may apply to individual residents unless they are exempt. These charges are the responsibility of the resident or the person managing their finances.
Who is eligible?
The service is intended for residents who:
- Cannot reasonably attend a dental practice
- Do not have a regular dentist
- Live within the commissioned area
- Meet the relevant criteria for domiciliary dental care
Eligibility is assessed individually.
What treatment can be provided in the care home?
The team can provide dental examinations, personalised care planning and appropriate treatment where it is clinically suitable and safe to do so.
The treatment available will depend on the resident's needs and the care environment.
What happens if treatment cannot be provided in the care home?
The dental team will explain the most appropriate next step.
This may include care at a local dental practice or a referral to a community or secondary care service.
Does the service include emergency care and recalls?
Yes. Recall appointments and emergency dental care are available for eligible residents receiving support through the service.
Do you provide training for care home staff?
Yes. The service includes oral health training aligned with NICE NG48 and Delivering Better Oral Health guidance.
The training is designed to help staff provide effective daily mouth care and support residents' oral health.
What does the care home need to provide?
Your care home will need to:
- Nominate an Oral Health Champion
- Provide up-to-date resident and medical information
- Help coordinate consent where required
- Provide a member of staff to accompany the dental team during appointments
- Support payment arrangements where NHS charges apply

What is an Oral Health Champion?
An Oral Health Champion is a nominated member of your care home team who acts as the main contact for oral health matters.
They can help coordinate information, support mouth care planning and work with the domiciliary dental team.
Is private treatment available?
Private treatment may be available on request.
Any private fees will be confirmed in advance and must be paid before treatment is completed.
